Appraisers

Depending on the age and purchase price you should get a survey.  In some cases this will also be required by your finance and/or insurance company.  These appraisals can tell you all about the boat and what may or may not need repaired or addressed. The cost usually ranges from $600 and up depending on the location and appraiser.  You will want to make sure and use a certified surveyor.  There is an association for this group and you can find one for your location at the link below.

We also recommend you check the hull identification number. This will provide you with information on whether the vessel has been damaged, salvaged, hurricane damaged and even seized. Many of these reports will also list any recalls by the manufacturer so you can assure they have been completed.  You can also source some infomation through the U.S. Coast Guard.  Links below.
